Why organic?

People are drawn to Organic foods for a variety of reasons, sometimes for personal reasons and sometimes for philosophical reasons. Here are a few of the reasons we care so much about Organic Agriculture:

Organic Farmers build healthy soil.

Healthy soil is the very foundation of a healthy food chain and a healthy community. Building healthy soil is like growing a savings account in the bank; it is a stockpile of wealth that can offer security and rewards for generations to come.

Tastes Great.

Organic produce, grown in well balanced and nutrient rich soils, has better quality and flavor than their conventional counterparts. Healthy plants produce better tasting food.

Reduces pesticide exposure.

Supporting organic agriculture reduces the amount of toxic pesticides on our food and in our environment. This is important to all consumers of produce, but it is especially important to farm workers and children living in agricultural areas.

Respect our water sources and our wildlife.

Organic agriculture conserves our water resources by building healthy soils which more effectively retain water. Organic agriculture protects wildlife by doing without toxic chemicals, and it does without excessive nitrogen which protects our rivers and our wells.

Holistic approach.

Organic agriculture recognizes that plants are organisms not machines. Just like people can’t drink gas and oil (or only eat vitamin supplements) and expect to stay healthy, plants can’t live on petrochemical fertilizers and toxic pesticides and expect to flourish. A nutritious, well balanced diet is the key to good health. Organic agriculture respects the interconnection within our ecosystem and recognizes that nurturing and protecting each individual aspect of our environment is vital to all parts of our environment.
