One of the first apple growers in Wenatchee, the Phillippi family began growing apples in the late 1800s. At that time they stored their apples in the basement and packed the fruit in sawdust to ship to Seattle. Now, a century later, they have grown and evolved into one of the largest family owned and operated packing houses in Washington.
Over the years, Phillippi began collaborating with other growers, to pack and sell their fruit as well. This became the Phillippi Fruit Co. we know today, a packing house that supplies delicious fruit from many different growers, from Pasco to Oroville.
Brad Buchert, Ray Gilbert, John Marcille, Tom Mulbier, and Michael Simon are the organic growers currently packed by Phillippi Fruit Co.
Tom Mulbier’s farm in Eltopia, Washington produces organic fuji apples that cause mouth-watering episodes. His website: www.organicfujis.com
Brad and Susie Buchert chose to farm organically several years ago because their home is next to the orchard, on land they’ve lived on for over 15 years. The health of their family was their first concern, so comprimising with conventional sprays was not an option.
While Brad grows their cherries and Gala apples, Susie brings in the Harvest each year while Brad is cutting hay. Brad and Susie’s three teenaged children help out on the farm, too, when they’re not busy winning basketball championships.
The Buchert family is proud to farm organically, to invest in their good health and yours!
