Red Jonagold Apples are a cross between the Golden Delicious and Jonathan apple varieties resulting in a large apple with a red flesh and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Organic Sommerfeld Apple

The Sommerfeld Apple is believed to be a cross between a Fuji and Gala apple. The result is an early season apple that is excellent for eating as well as baking. It is a yellow-green apple with a redish blush or stripes with a taste similar to that of a Fuji. It has a mild yet long lasting sweet flavor tempered with a slight tartness.

The Gala apple has quickly become one of the most popular apples in the US after its debut in the early 1980’s. Its popularity is due to the incredible color and flavor. It is a round apple with a brilliant background of creamy yellow skin with pink to red stripes and thin skin. You can smell the honey, mildly sweet taste of a gala before you even cut in to it.
The Gala Apple has many strains including the Royal Gala, named after Queen Elizabeth II, and the galaxy, prized for its color. Gala’s are best when eaten straight out of hand but will lend a slightly soft texture and beautiful color when added to pies and sauces.

The Braeburn Apple is a barrel shaped apple that is golden color with a red blush and striping. It was first developed in New Zealand but has quickly become a popular apple for its firm texture and sweet- tart flavor. The Braeburn is an apple that is meant to be eaten out of hand but, the firm texture will hold up in most cooking.

The Empire Apple is cross between a McIntosh and Red Delicious Apples, resulting in a beautiful deep red, all-purpose apple with a great tart flavor cut by the slightly sweet flavor of a Red Delicious. This apple is ideal for eating but also holds up well in cooking. Its skin color will result in a pink tinged applesauce, or pie when used for cooking.

Organic Fuji Apple

The Fuji Apple was originally developed in Japan and is known for its sweet flavor and very crisp texture. It has a very long lasting flavor that will linger on the palate helping to make the Fuji the third most popular apple in the US. The Fuji is very round in size with a creamy background and red blush. Fuji’s are ideal for eating out of hand; they would be a second choice for baking and cooking except when looking for a very sweet result.

Gold Blush apples are an improved version of the popular Golden Delicious apple. They have a similar pale yellow flesh as a Golden, but with a signature reddish blush. They are sweet with a mildly grainy flesh and slightly thick skin. The Gold Blush is a great all purpose apple to be eaten out of hand or in baking and cooking. These apples are sweet enough on their own to be baked into a pie or cobbler with little or no added sweetner.

The Cameo Apple is one of the most versatile apples; it is great for eating straight out of the bag, baking, and cooking. It is also one of the most recognizable apples due to its bi-colored yellow and red flesh, and white speckles. It is a juicy, firm fleshed apple with a sweet and tart flavor. The Cameo is a newer variety apple developed in Washington state by chance when discovered in a Red Delicious and Golden Delicious orchard.

The Newtown Pippin is one of America’s oldest varieties; discovered in 1759 it is said to have been Benjamin Franklin’s favorite apple and grown in Thomas Jefferson’s personal orchard. The Newtown Pippin is round in shape with a pale green or yellow colored flesh that may have a slight speckling of white dots.

The Newtown Pippin is highly aromatic with a smell that may be described as piney. This aroma is a indicator of its refreshing sweet flavor that finishes with a hint of tart. This flavor makes the Newtown Pippin a good choice for cooking but, the apple browns quickly once cut so it should be used immediately or combined with citrus acids to help hold color.

Discovered by Mrs. Smith during the 1800’s in Australia, the Granny Smith did not make it to America until the 1950’s as an import apple. In the past four decades the Granny Smith had become widely planted in America making it available year round.

It is best known for its vibrant green skin, tart flavor, and crunchy flesh. The firm crunchy texture and tart flavor make this the ideal pie, and salad apple. It has both the texture and flavor to stand out in a complex dish or just delight your palate.

Enterprise Apples are a late season apple with a brilliant, glossy dark red skin and slightly elongated shape. The flavor profile of an Enterprise is somewhat spicy, meaning it has a complex combination of tart and sweet flavors reminiscent of cinnamon or hot flavors on the tongue. This is a very full flavored apple with a somewhat thick skin making it a great choice for eating, baking, or cooking with. The Honeycrisp apple is one of the newest apple varieties gaining popularity. It is a cross between a Macoun and Honeygold developed by the University of Minnesota. After several decades of testing, the Honeycrisp seedling was patented and introduced to the public in 1991.

Honeycrisp apples have a yellow flesh covered with a red- orange blush or striping. It has an incredibly crunchy bite due in part to its preference for a cold growing region and a very sweet flavor that is highly aromatic. The sweetness and beauty of this apple make it an ideal eating apple although it can hold up to heat in cooking and baking.

The Pink Lady apple truly lives up to her name. Pink in color, crunchy, and a smooth sweet and tart flesh, the pink lady is considered the perfect dessert apple. This is an apple that is meant to be savored and enjoyed right all on its own.
