Red Onions

Red Onions

August - April

Red onions stand out from their fellow onions due to their dark red papery skin and bright maroon flesh. They are assertively spicy and crunchy, and when raw, lend themselves well as salad, burger or sandwich toppings. They are also great for pickling,  grilling or roasting. Whether you serve your red onions raw or cooked, their spicy flavor and vibrant color make them hard to miss.

Sweet Onions

Sweet Onions

July - December

Sweet onions are much milder and sweeter than other varieties due to a lower concentration of sulfur. They have thin, light-colored papery skin, and tend to be more fragile and not keep as long as yellow or red onions. Sweet onions are fantastic thinly sliced and served in salads or on top of sandwiches. They are also great when added to gratins or roasted vegetables, and make excellent onion rings.

White Onions

White Onions

September - March

White onions have thin, white, papery skin and bright white flesh. They are milder than yellow onions and have a crisp texture. This makes them a good choice for raw preparations — slivered in salads, minced in salsas or thinly sliced on your favorite sandwich. You can also sauté them, which leads to a golden color and sweet flavor. They’re a staple in Mexican cuisine like huevos rancheros, refried beans and all sorts of salsa and salads.
